At the start of “So You Think You Can Dance” Top 18 episode this week, judge Nigel Lythgoe, who is also the show’s creator and executive producer announced some great news – that SYTYCD was nominated for seven Emmys. Out of the seven, four of those are for choreographers! Hosted by Cat Deeley, SYTYCD will be welcoming Academy of Villains who just joined the show, and in two weeks, the dance crews will be taking place. Then the most immediate business of the night was revealing what dancers were in the bottom six.

THE BOTTOM SIX:
Bridget, Emilio, Emily, Stanley, Jourdan, Teddy

ZACK, JACQUE

Partner Reveals: Zack said Jacque is obsessed with Rudy. Jacque said Zack swims a lot! They danced a hip-hop routine to the song “Stay with Me” choreographed by Keone and Mari Madrid. Mary said she was “feeling it. I loved you two in that group number too. I loved the articulation you did with your hands.” Nigel said “Jacque, you look like you are never out of your genre,” and he said Zack commits. Misty said “you guys have grown. You (Jacque) are not a ballerina and you (Zack) are not a tapper. You guys are dancers.”

MARCQUET, JOURDAN

Partner Reveals: Jourdan is always working-out when she’s not dancing. Marcquet is in a hip-hop dance crew in Utah, called “Urban Dance Organization.”   They danced contemporary choreographed by Dee Caspary. Nigel said they were “challenged by Dee.” He also said “somehow I’m not personally connecting with either of you.” Nigel also noted Marcquet’s “lack of discipline” in his work. Misty said she noticed Marcquet more this week than last week and said “there’s something missing” in his technique. Mary complimented Jourdan by telling her she executes “everything amazing.” She told Marcquet that he needs to watch his foot work and that’s where he shows his lack of training.

JESSICA, STANLEY

Partner Reveals: Stanley is an aspiring male model. Jessica likes to surf. But Stanley thinks she should stick to dancing! They danced a jazz number choreographed by Tyce Diorio. Misty was impressed by Jessica and told her she “can move!” She also advised them both that they are “over-doing it” with facial expressions. Misty complimented Stanley’s jumps and said he “shines.” Mary told Stanley that he had “absolute moments of brilliance.” But, told him to lay off so many jumps, “we know you can catch air.”  Nigel was a bit disappointed and told Jessica that she has yet to live-up to her first SYTYCD live performance that she did with Ricky. He told Stanley to save some of his strength for his core.

BRIDGET, EMILIO

Partner Reveals: Bridget is a “nerd” who goes to Renaissance Fairs. Emilio does Taekwondo and has a black belt. During their rehearsals, Emilio dropped Bridget on her butt. Bridget elbowed Emilio in the face. They danced a jive number choreographed by couple and former SYTYCD dancers Anya Garnis and Pasha Kovalev. Mary told Bridget that she “really latched onto the technique” and Emilio, not so much! Nigel told Emilio he is enjoying watching him grow each week, and Bridget that she was beautiful. Misty thought they were just “perfection.”

TEDDY, EMILY

Partner Reveals: Teddy is highly competitive with board games. They dance contemporary choreographed by Tyce Diorio. Nigel loved it, and said “the fact that love isn’t all beauty, and you have to get through the ugly to stay together.” Nigel also said, “the true gift of dance is that you can touch the human spirit.” Misty said they were singing with their bodies. Mary was impressed with Emily, and told Teddy she was “mesmerized” by him.

BROOKLYN, CASEY

Partner Reveals: Brooklyn is a skateboarder. Casey is serious about his fashion. They danced jazz choreographed by Bonnie Story. Misty said she was more impressed with Brooklyn this week than last week, and Casey was “fabulous.” Mary said for Brooklyn, there were moments when she was “getting things”. She told Casey he was fascinating to watch and that he was “on fire!” Nigel told Brooklyn that she needs to keep up with Casey.

VALERIE, RICKY

Partner Reveals: Valerie is obsessed with pigs and has over 200 stuffed animal pigs. Ricky was a barracuda mascot for his high school. They danced a Viennese Waltz choreographed by former SYTYCD contestant Lacey Schwimmer. They received a standing ovation from Nigel. Cat said she could eat them. Mary told Ricky she was proud, but he’d have to work on smoothing his leg out. She said Valerie has an inner beauty and that she has to watch the top line. Nigel said Ricky’s performance was “beyond reproach”, and that he is a level above the general dancers whom he works with. He also said this week Valerie came up to Ricky’s standard. Misty said tonight was Valerie’s night.

CARLY, SERGE

Partner Reveals: Carly was on the dance team in college. They danced a hip-hop number choreographed by Luther Brown. Nigel said it’s a difficult routine for him to critique, and that he doesn’t think it will drive people to vote for them. Misty disagreed and that she is from this generation and that she loves some hip-hop. Mary told Carly, “you were in it!” She told Serge that he works so hard and loved him in this piece.

TANISHA, RUDY

Partner Reveals: Tanisha has a massive family made up of 11 brothers and sisters. Rudy has a crush on Jacque. They danced a Fosse Broadway number choreographed by Warren Carlyle. They received a standing ovation from all of the judges. Cat said she thought that Rudy was going to land in the front row! Misty told Rudy “this is you. You were so fabulous.” Mary said “it certainly was a show stopper.” She told Rudy that he has dance running in his veins. But the best compliment came when Mary said she’ll remember this number 30 years from now.

ELIMINATION TIME:

Nigel told the dancers “don’t look at this as how far you are away from the prize, but at how far you’ve come. We decided to go with ‘America’s vote’. Jourdan and Stanley were the two dancers with the least amount of votes. Jourdan said “it’s really been special, thank you!” Stanley thanked everyone for supporting him.

Jourdan and Stanley were eliminated.
