Killer Catwalk on THE VOICE Season 11 Knockouts Week 2 Recap

It’s the second week of “The Voice” Knockout Rounds which puts the contestants that much closer to the Live Playoffs. One steal is left for the night by new coach Alicia Keys who has it saved to use on one artist in particular.

Key Advisers Tim McGraw and Faith Hill lend their support in help coaching each Team’s artists during the Knockouts. One contestant gets especially surprised and intimidated to learn that the original artist (Tim McGraw) of the song he chose is a Key Adviser!

MAYE THOMAS vs. DARBY WALKER (Team Miley)

Maye Thomas sang “Closer” by Tegan and Sara. Darby Walker chose to sing
“Shake It Out” by Florence + The Machine.

Knockout Winner: Darby Walker

GABE BROUSSARD vs. AUSTIN ALLSUP (Team Blake)

Gabe sang “It Will Rain” by Bruno Mars. Austin chose “Breakdown” by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

Knockout Winner: Austin Allsup

BRENDAN FLETCHER vs. NOLAN NEAL (Team Adam)

Brendan sang Soulshine” by the Allman Brothers Band and Nolan sang “Love is Your Name” by Steven Tyler. Adam called Nolan’s voice “pissed-off and amazing.” He said Nolan is someone he’d want to see for two hours. Both Tim McGraw and Adam advised Nolan to ‘throw the guitar away” because when he does, he’s a “rock star.”

Blake said Brendan’s voice is full and warm but Nolan treated more like a Knockout Round and “swung over the fence.” Alicia said Brendan’s voice “stands out” but the range of the song didn’t allow his voice to open-up. With Nolan, she said there was and “unleashing.” Miley said she’d want to see Nolan in concert, but would listen to Brendan at home. Coach Adam said Nolan is so extroverted while Brendan is not. It’s the hardest choice he said.

The Voice 11 Knockouts, Brendan Fletcher

Knockout Winner: Brendan Fletcher. Adam said there’s more ability that is natural with Brendan. He said he “can’t explain it.”

MICHAEL SANCHEZ vs. SA’RAYAH (Team Alicia)

Sa’Rayah sang Chaka Khan’s “Ain’t Nobody.” Faith Hill compared Sa’Rayah to Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin. Michael said he had to overcome a speech impediment as a child and music helped to build his confidence. Michael sang “Just the Two of Us” by Bill Withers while playing the piano during the whole performance.

Miley said Sa’Rayah lit the room on fire and has good instinct but thinks Michael won the round. She called him “super, super special.” Adam called them “the illest duo” of all time! He said Sa’Rayah treats the stage like a catwalk and Michael is more dope than one would think and he’s a “killer!” Adam thought Michael won because he was so unexpected. Blake said he thought Sa’Rayah hit some major notes and “she’s SO incredibly talented. He said it’s “unbelievable how she works the stage.” Alicia called Michael a special artist. She said they “both owned it!” Coach Alicia chose Sa’Rayah as the winner. Alicia thought Sa’Rayah was brave to sing Chaka Khan.

The Voice 11 Knockouts, Sa'Rayah

Knockout Winner: SaRayah . Alicia said she chose Sa’Rayah because she killed her performance.

DANA HARPER vs. KARLEE METZER (Team Blake)

The Voice 11, Knockouts, Dana Harper vs. Karlee Metzer

Dana chose to sing “You Give Me Something” by James Morrisan. Faith and Tim were impressed by her voice and Tim said there’s nothing to say. He said Faith can sing like that! Karlee chose to sing “Invincible” by Kelly Clarkson. Blake told her to work on her diction and thought that Kelly Clarkson was a bit more to bite off than Karlee could chew.

Miley said it seemed pure honest and true for Dana. Adam thought it was a win for Karlee because she improved so much. Then said he loves Dana (whom he tried to get on his team during Blind Auditions). Coach Blake said he likes that Karlee is willing to push herself as far as she can for choosing Kelly Clarkson. But Dana’s voice blows his mind. He picked Dana as the winner.

The Voice 11 Knockouts, Dana Harper

Knockout Winner: Dana Harper. Blake said Dana always finds a different side of herself to show, and can’t wait to see what she brings to the live shows.

AARON GIBSON vs. JOSH HALVERSON (Team Miley)

Aaron said he chose to sing Country song “Die a Happy Man” to show Miley a different side of him. Josh chose “Whiskey and You” by Tim McGraw. Miley said she would not have chosen that song for him. When Josh saw that Tim McGraw is the Key Adviser, he said he felt intimidated. Tim advised Josh to “stay connected”. Miley showed Josh that his singing (during rehearsal) gave her chills.

Adam reacted that he’s always shocked by Aaron because he doesn’t sound how he looks. He said Josh really succeeded and they’re both fantastic. Blake said Aaron has a gift of having a “hard sounding voice.” Josh has to be the most chill human being. Blake said Josh is “on Josh time.” He said he blazes his own path and is going to go buy that song. Alicia said it’s a tough choice for Miley. Aaron has a lot of layers to his voice she said. Alicia also said Blake is understanding music because Josh goes to the beat of his own drum. She called his performance one of the most powerful. Coach Miley said she can see what Aaron will do on his own after the show. She said Josh took everyone in the room into his own world. Miley said she thinks more in her head than what she says (All the coaches were shocked!) Miley chose Aaron as the winner.

The Voice 11 Knockouts, Aaron Gibson

Knockout Winner: Aaron Gibson. Miley said she wants Aaron to know she believes in him.

Steal: Alicia stole Josh Halverson. Alicia said she’s been waiting for Josh and he’s heard in people’s hearts. She’s excited to have him back!

Another Team Miley Knockout was SOPHIA URISTA vs. JOSETTE DIAZ. Miley chose Sophia as the winner. Miley said Sophia is like Prince on the outside, and going into the Lives, she has to pick someone she trusts 100%.
