Starting Saturday, June 13th, the Game Show Network (GSN) will be introducing two new original game shows, “20Q” and “The Money List”, that give viewers the opportunity to play for cash and prizes.

According to GSN’s Senior Vice President of Programming, Kelly Goode, viewers can win either via phone, or online, as well as the studio audiences.

In the case with “20Q”, show contestants from the audience battle each other for a spot on-stage to play against, “Mr. Q”, the computer (voiced by “Queer as Folk”, Hal Sparks) to win a possible $20,000.

“20Q” recently wrapped filming at “The Hollywood Center Studios”, and is hosted by — last ten clues in “Celebrity” category: 1) has British accent 2) has Australian accent 3) gets mistaken for the “Orbitz” gum girl, 4) hosts a singing show, 5) hosts a dance show, 6) taller than 5′7″ 7) blonde, brunette, 9) worked with Jay Leno, 10) British host. All true clues are numbers: 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10. Yes, the host of “20Q” is Cat Deeley, also host of “So You Think You Can Dance” (my all time favorite summer show!).

On “The Money List’, players must predict from a list, how many their game partners will know. List examples are: Tom Cruise movies, Las Vegas casinos, or Elton John Top 40 hits. The team with the most correct answers go on to compete for a shot at winning the $50,000 grand prize.

“The Money List” airs Saturdays at 6:30pm (PT) and again at 9:30pm. Check-out “20Q” at 5pm and again at 8pm (PT).

But, on Sunday, May 17th, it returned, revived, revamped and fully computer loaded. So much so, it slowed the taping process of the show down tremendously.

The show is hosted by a very charming and witty host. You’ll have to play “20 Questions” in order to guess who the host is at the end of this article..

Contestants are strategically placed in the audience in rows of seven. The studio lights flicker and blink until they stop on one of these rows of contestants. At that time, a series of questions are given as clues until someone answers correctly. This process of elimination is repeated until the show has it’s first set of three players selected who go on stage for the second round of the game.

The winner of this round, goes on to sit in the audience to await to play his or her competitor (the person who wins next the round) The same process of elimination is repeated to choose another three players for the second round. Winners of each round wins $5000.

Whomever beats out their opponent, goes-on to battle it out with the “machine”, named “Q” to compete to win a possible $20,000.

That’s the quick synopsis of how the game is played. More interesting than the game, was the actual activity on-set that day. This was, again, the production’s first day back of filming the show. There were many technical mishaps with the computers. This included, the host’s monitor and studio screen not syncing-up with one another; mis-information given to host regarding lines; lighting malfunctions; worst of all – buzzer malfunctions (audience contestants’ buzzers would go-off when not being pressed); and finally, an earthquake for crying-out-loud! One of the grips reactions to the main studio screen’s swaying back-and-forth was, “That’s not an earthquake!”

And, how could I forget, I almost got pounded in the head by a loose camera rig above me!! (NOT occurring during the earthquake). I would say “lawsuit”, but I know my chances of surviving that would have been slim-to-none.

Warm-up guy, Joe called for our friend at “Buzzerblog”. He yelled-out numerous times, “Is buzzerblog here?” He stated that he reads the blog every night, and read of an expected visit on-set that day by “buzzerblog”.

Some viewers may or may not recognize that the set appears to be built with about two-thirds of the “Bingo America” set. I’m not positive yet, until I have a side-by-side photo of each, but I’m about 98% sure that the “Bingo America” ball is being used as the head of “Q”.

Many delays, mishaps, and man-handling of the host by the stage manager – he physically placed this host with his hands as if the host were a prop– I’m sure called for an out-and-out back-stage verbal “beat-down” by this host. I could see the frustration and temper building-up between abundant breaks.

With this much stopping-and-starting between filming, it was hard to follow the show. So, I cannot determine how well the show will do on TV. But, I’m sure later tapings will be go much more smoother now after they’ve gotten their first rehearsal out of the way.

The show starts airing sometime next month. No official date has been released yet.

SEE our past blog post on the pilot of this show: http://hollywoodjunket.com/blog/2008/08/17/20-q-humans-vs-machine/

Now, it’s time to play “20Q”. Here’s your FIRST 10 questions to guess the show’s host’s identity. Playing in the category of, “Celebrity”. Is this person: 1) film star 2) TV star 3) married 4) single 5) Canadian 6) male 7) female over 50 yrs 9) singer 10) has Vegas show … last 10 questions later.

HOLLYWOOD JUNKET host, Charity, attended a new game show pilot yesterday called “20 Q”. Here’s her review of the show:

Humans Vs. Machine, what do you think about that for a show? That’s right people!

There’s a new game show tv pilot that was just shot yesterday and I love the concept of the game.

It’s three contestants that get to compete with a computer screen! The cutest thing about the show is that the computer screen named “Debra-Q” or called “Q”, has the human qualities of a sexy woman robot voice with an attitude!

This show has charming and talented Joey Lawrence as the host and 74-time winning Jeopardy Champion, Ken Jennings as the so called “residential expert”. Jennings gets to pick out the categories of a person, place, or thing that the contestants have to guess. For example, Jennings may pick a celebrity category and give you clues of what celebrity it could be.

Ken Jennings

Ken Jennings is the “residential expert” on new TV pilot, “20 Q”.
The audience uses a little hand-held computer to enter-in their answers to whom they think the celebrity is. Whomever buzzes-in to submit their answer gets to run-in on stage and tell Jennings their answer. If that person is correct, than they get to be a contestant on the show and play against “Debra-Q”!

Jennings then tells the audience two more categories and then two more random contestants get on stage and play against “Debra-Q”! Each player that gets to play against “Q” get $1000 dollars!

In next round, Jennings recites a category and gives 6 clues on the screen and each contestant gets to ask one of 3 questions that are given. The contestants can ask up to 20 questions to figure out the answer. Whomever gets the right answer before “Q” or the Machine, that contestant goes-on to the next round and wins $20,000 dollars.

Each contestant has a computerized scribble pad that shows the audience the answers they think the person, place, or object could be! The contestants would then buzz-in with their final answer. Just because we see what they are guessing doesn’t mean that it’s the contestants final answer. The contestant that gets to go to the next round and plays for $500,000.

Another interesting thing that “Q” does to scare the contestants is that she tells the contestants how many words she is narrowing down her answer to. Obviously, the lower the number she shows on her screen, the more the contestant gets nervous and feels that they are under pressure.

So, in the last round that contestant picks out of 25 balls that are in 3 different colors that are labeled with covered numbers to reveal how many more times the contestant gets to raise their winnings with. For example, a contestant may pick a blue ball and if they have just won $20,000 and if they guess the correct answer for the category that Jennings gives the contestant then they get to uncover the hidden number on his ball to find out how many times they win on top of the $20,000! If they pick the number 6 ball, then the contestant would win $120,000.

The most money a contestant can win is $500,000. Good luck to anyone who dares to play against the MACHINE!
