The host of “So You Think You Can Dance” Cat Deeley has been with the show since the very start. This season she says it’s the “same show you know and love only bigger and better. How do we possibly beat last year? How do we raise the bar? Somehow, because of everyone that works on the show and the talent of the dancers, every year the bar is raised.”
Mixing It Up:
During the auditions this season, she said, “So far for season 10 is really exciting because people realize that they don’t have to stick with just one genre. You can actually mix it all up.” This also means that dancers can also choose contrasting music. They can do a hip hop routine to classic music. Or, they can do contemporary with jazz. “The dancers have learned that they have to do something different in order to make the judges sit up and take notice,” said Deeley.
Not To Be Rich and Famous:
Deeley stated that after 10 seasons, “Never in my wildest dreams I thought I’d still be going in season 10.” She says that what keeps the show fresh is the talent of the dancers. They are the hardest working people I know. They dance through injury. They don’t do it to become rich and famous they do it because they can’t imagine not dancing.”
The Dangers of Dancing:
The most riveting dance numbers perhaps are the one that are most dangerous performing. Deeley stated that Diso is the one dancers should be warned of. Deeley stated that the most dangerous routines are always Dario and Sanchez’ disco numbers. “Most people’s specialty isn’t disco. So, it’s always slightly out of people’s comforts zone and always fast, and there’s normally about 15 lifts and they both have to keep moving and spinning around. Two people that are normally not partners. Those are always the most dangerous. I know because of the costume department. The girls are beaded and the guy’s underwear – it shafts. It’s dangerous!”
“So You Think You Can Dance” returns to FOX on Tuesday, May 14 and Wednesday May 15.
