The Other Side on THE VOICE Season 14 Top 10 Live Playoffs Week 4 Recap

In the fourth week of NBC’s “The Voice” singing compeition reality-show, super-star coaches – Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, and Blake Shelton took the members of their teams to places that were sentimental to them and answered questions that revealed more about their own process of being musical artists. Each Team’s artists also brought-in family, or someone special to their rehearsals this week.

Monday night’s show featured important peformances from the artists that woud determine which ones would make-up the Top 8 after Tuesday nights Results Show.

KYLA JADE (Team Blake)

Kyla chose Keala Settle’s “This Is Me” song. She picked the song because it’s about the ability to be hurt and to be overwhelmed, stated Kyla. She said she’s never felt pretty. “If I help another girl see that she’s pretty, I’ve done what I need to do,” stated Kyla. She told Blake about being trolled online for her looks. Blake responded to stop reading that stuff. Kyla got emotional during her rehearsal. Blake stated “we’ll see more heart from Kyla than what we’ve seen.” He also told Kyla that during her performance, she’s allowed to cry (which she did) and that’s what made our heroes who they are.

After Kyla’s performance, Alicia called her “stunning and magnificent. Alicia added that Kyla should feel “glorious” and thanked her for bearing her soul like that. Blake told Kyla that he loves her. “We not only heard your message” he said they also felt it and stated that he thinks she’s gauranteed a spot in the Semi-Finals.

KALEB LEE (Team Kelly)

Kaleb chose Little Big Town’s “Boondocks” song. It’s a song from a quartette. He said he toned it down in the beginning and “put some swamp into it.” Kelly said Kaleb picked the song subconciously because he misses home. Caleb had a visit from his mom and wife. Kelly said it’s hard sometimes on a show like this when you’re shy like Kaleb and not “extra” like her. She said she’s glad that America is finally taking notice of Kaleb.

JACKIE VERNA (Team Adam)

Jackie said she’s found the lane that she wants to be in and she’s a story writer. She sang “The Voice”s RaeLynn’s “Love Triangle.” “It’s vunerable to write a song like this and tell the world” said Jackie who had to imagine what it’s like to have her parents divorced in order to relate to the song. Blake responed that he loves that song and RaeLynn was on his Team. He said he grew-up in a divorced family. So, the song hit home and her voice hit home with the delivery. Coach Adam said “finally we found it” – her range and sweet spot. He said a really “perfect vocal” can get lost in the shuffle. He called her performance beautiful that “deserves to be rewarded.”

Kelly Clarkson performed her single “I Don’t Think About You.”

Adam took his Team to the studio where he first recorded. Rayshun said he loves a good challenge, dropped out of college and at 33-years-old, he doesn’t have a back-up plan. Adam told Rayshun that performing this song, will be “a changer of the game” and predicted Rayshun will be in the Top 5. In his performance, Rayshun stood-out singing with a chorus of backup singers.

Kelly said she’s never had that much fun watching anyone and he’s so infectious. “You light up everyone in the room” She called him “pure joy.” Adam said it felt to him like here’s Rayshun coming out to promote an album. “If you all are looking for a star, here’s your dude!”

SPENSHA BAKER (Team Blake)

Spensha decided to change it up this week by going nto the Country/Pop lane. Blake told her she needs to find a spot in the melody to “jump out.” He told her to go ahead an swing from the fence. The song is about the roller coaster of life. Spensha said when stuff gets hard, feel it, live it. Because on the other side, there’s “The Voice.” Blake said she’s special because she’s able to wear her heart on her sleeve.

Adam reacted to Spensha’s performance by stating that some people can sing Hall & Oats and not connect. He stated that Spensha is doing exactly what she should be doing. Coach Blake reacted that he was thiniking that, this was Spensha’s best performance on the show. He said she’s going to make Country music history and she’s going to be a star. Blake finished with “I can’t believe that I got to be a little tiny part of it.”

JACKIE FOSTER (Team Alicia)

Jackie expressed to Alicia that she wanted to show the more tender side of her. She chose to sing Sara Bareilles’ “Gravity.” Jackie said watching Alicia play the piano made her heart melt. She asked what was Alicia doing before the world knew who she was. Alicia said even after she was signed at age 15, it was never easy. Jackie was glad to sing a song that America wouldn’t expect from her. Alicia predicted that it would be “a show-stopper.” Alicia said it was a perfect moment for Jackie and she showed that she’s stronger than ever. Alicia finished with that it was a beautiful vocal and she was taken into Jackie’s world.

BRITTON BUCHANAN (Team Alicia)

Britton had his girlfriend there with him whom he met on “The Voice.” Britton asked what Alicia’s process is. She said she doesn’t like when things feel too complicated so she goes somewhere serene. Britton sang “What’s Love Got to Do With it” by Tina Turner. It was a challenge because Britton said he had to remove some of the 80s sheen that was on it and made it his own. Alicia said people love it when you’re authentically you.

Adam said his heart’s been broken for so long, so that song was for him because Britton is not on his team. Although destiny didn’t bring Britton to him, he’s just as proud of him. Alicia stated that Britton’s swag is on 30 million and he’s so unique. At 18, he’s spectatcular and he “smashed that!”

CHRISTIANA DANIELLE (Team Alicia)

Christiana chose “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers. Alicia told Christiana that she was inspired by Nina Simone. Christiana said that same thing is what drew her to Alicia Keys. Christiana admits that she deals with self-doubt and fear. Kelly reacted to Christiana’s performance with, “you’re body is like a living, breathing, moving orchestra.” She called it “rad” and this performace was her favorite thing that Christiana has done on the show. Alicia said Christiana is discovering who she is every week on this show. She owns it and people are rivited by her.

PRYOR BAIRD (Team Blake)

The Voice 14 Live Playoffs week 4, Pryor Baird

Pryor brought his mom with him to “The Voice” rehearsal. Pryor sang “My Town” by Montgomery Gentry. Blake said the song is a challenge because it’s two different tones of voices in the song. Pryor said he needs to find his happy medium and put his twist on it. Original artist of “Night Moves” song which Pryor performed on “The Voice” last week, Bob Segar, Tweeted Pryor last week to tell him that he “killed it.” Blake chose “My Town” for Pryor. He said Pryor can do any kind of Rock. But, his roots are Country.

Adam called Pryor the best screamer. But, tonight, they saw another side and he’s so dynamic and amazing. It was an ear-opening experience Adam finished. Blake said Pryor’s momentum is building because music fans are realizing how rare his voice is. Blake thinks Pryor will go beyond Top 3 this week.

BRYNN CARTELLI (Team Kelly)

Brynn said she want’s to make her music “super personal.” She sang “Fix You” by Coldplay. The song is a message to her mom who is going through something personal Brynn stated. Brynn said she wants to make the song her own but in a way that still honors the original. For anyone going through a challenge, this song is for them said Cartelli. Kelly said it’s beautiful to see someone like Brynn with such an old soul but with a young body.

Coach Kelly responded while fighting back her emotions, that it’s an amazing thing to watch someone so young to sing that message and she feels it. That’s innate in you and that can’t be learned. “I’m so excited that America vote you through.” Kelly called Brynn an anomaly.

Jackie Verna sang “I Told You So” by Carrie Underwood. Jackie got emotional during her performance. Adam said he was “pretty shocked” to see her in the bottom. Adam told both Jackie and Rayshun, “you’re both on my team, you’re both in the Bottom Three. That’s the reality of it.” He said to focus on the success that they’ve made it there among thousands. Adam reminded them that they are part of the elite. “Take this regardless of the outcome and use it. You have everything you need to become successful.”
