Everything Wrong with FLIP SIDE Game Show Hosted by Jaleel White Sneak-Peek!

New game show “Flip Side” is a mix of a lot of what’s familiar to game show fans, with a more simplistic format, hosted by beloved 90s sitcom icon Jaleel White (“Family Matters”).

It’s “Family Feud,” meets “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.” Except, no one is getting rich off of this show (well, maybe the network, and host). No contestants are winning life changing money, nor any small windfall of money that the show offers.

“Flip Side ” is possibly the worst game show that a contestant can get on – monetarily speaking. Contestants play in pairs (friends, siblings, and couples) for four rounds of “Flip Side.” The first two rounds have the teams playing for points. Yes, points, NOT money!

The third round determines who plays the “bonus” round where the winning team plays for a chance to win $10,000. Problem is, out of the six shows that we watched in one tape day, none of the teams won this money!

In fact, after they don’t win, the show gives them a $1000 parting prize. That’s only $500 per person!

HOW THE GAME IS PLAYED:

Teams must guess the number one answer out of three options of multiple choice.

ROUND ONE: Two teams of two take turns at multiple choice answers. Each correct answer earns the teams 250 points. Questions are asked of a poll taken by an undisclosed number of people.

Pictured: Jaleel White on “Flip Side.”

For example, one poll is “the things fathers do that only daughters can make them do.” The choices were: painted nails; attended a tea party; or made them a Barbie fan.

The flip side to that question was, “the one thing that connects daughters the most to their fathers long term.” The choices were: a nickname; made them a sports fan; or tools.

ROUND TWO: Viewers get to find out a little bit more about the players when host Jaleel White briefly interviews them. This round is the same as the first round, except contestants earn 500 points per correct answer.

ROUND THREE: This round is practically useless. It’s a rapid fire question round. Each team must answer as many questions right within a 30 second time frame. The show lets the winning team go first. WHAT??? The losing team should go first.

The pairs in the team take turns answering. One team was confused by this, because they kept answering over each other at the same time. Because in most of the games, one team was drastically ahead of another team by this round and catching up at this point is almost entirely impossible.

In fact, during this round, one contestant answered “rewind” for his answer and added, “rewind this game!” Producers later had him redo it without the sass.

The show makes it seem that the losing team has a chance by adding an additional 100 points per question. This applies even if they answer incorrectly.

So, if the contestant answers three questions in a row wrong, the fourth question correctly, then three hundred points are added. After all that, if a team is lagging behind immensely, the opposing winning team would have to get no answers correct in order for the losing team to win.

ROUND FOUR: The Final “Bonus” Round is when the winning team has to choose the top 5 answers out of ten choices. If they manage to successfully choose all five top responses, they win the grand prize of $10,000.

BEHIND THE SCENES:

Contestants get a cool meet and greet session with Jaleel White after their games and have selfies taken with the host.

In one incident, Jaleel White was being rushed by the stage manager to go backstage to get ready for the next taping. He snapped at her, “I’ll do what I want to do!!” And continued to talk to his fans/contestants! Lol! We love that!

One show had to be re-started after replacing the opposing contestants.  Production had blamed it on “technical difficulties.”  However, many on-lookers speculated that the contestants were replaced due to the couple showing up with one of them seemingly, perhaps being intoxicated.

“Flip Side” is set to air on CBS and in syndication starting September 9, 2024. The show will have a second run on Game Show Network (GSN) beginning Monday, September 16, 2024.

  1. Patty says:

Jalleel sucks and is horrible to look at. He clearly has his favorites, giving subtle clues. What a nightmare. Go away, jerk

  2. Ken says:

My wife and I have watched three shows this week that ended with only 2 wrong answers in the final round. Didn’t make any sense when the show ended before getting three wrong answers? Any info?

  3. Caron T Morgan says:

I was thinking the same thing about the 2 wrong answers at the end of the show. Anyone ever get the answer?

  4. Hink says:

we saw the same shows that ended with only two wrong answers…show is bogus, should be investigated.

    • Editor says:

If you’re talking about the last round, the contestants must get all the answers correct in order to win. I don’t disagree that this is bogus. They make it especially tough for contestants to win.
