Final Four Going to Hometowns on THE BACHELOR Season 29 Episode 5 Recap

The remaining seven women met Grant in Scotland where they were already anticipating the hometown dates coming up next week.  Little did they know, it would be more difficult and nerve-wrecking sealing that deal than expected.

After their arrival to a prominent hotel where they’re staying, host Jesse Palmer delivered some bad news by telling the women there will be NO roses handed out during the dates this week. With that, he let them know to look forward to two one-one one dates and one group date. Then left them with the first date card.

THE FIRST ONE-ON-ONE DATE:

The date card was for a one-on-one with Juliana.  Grant took Julianna up in a helicopter at the start of their date while the other women looked-on with jealousy.   The two landed at a castle where they met a stylist who dressed the King and Queen in a room full of clothing.  The butler told them to be mindful of their final outfit.

Back at the hotel:  The next date card arrived with the names:  Sarafiena, Alexe, Carolina, Dina, Zoe.  That meant that Litia was getting the second and last one-on-one date.  The date card read, “I’m looking for my Queen.”  Zoe was “devastated” to not have gotten the one-on-one with Grant and said in her confessional,  “at this point, it’s embarrassing.”

Back to Grant and Juliana: The pair got formally dressed-up for their dinner date.  Grant ensured Juliana that he does want to get to know her better.  She warned him that she’s not always this super bubbly person before telling him that she was close to a family member with an addiction and that took her to a dark place.  Thus, “laughing and smiling is a coping mechanism in some ways.”

Grant could relate because the same thing happened to him and he told her about his father having an addiction.  Grant noted that Juliana spoke of feeling “alone.”  That prompted him to show her his lone wolf tattoo.  Juliana showed interest in getting a hometown date and told Grant that she’s falling in love with him.  Grant said he feels the same in his confessional and can see Juliana as his wife.

THE GROUP DATE:

The five women on the group date were:  Carolina, Zoe, Alexe, Sarafiena, and Dina.   They attended “Highland Fair” where locals celebrate tradition.  During a tarot card reading, the psychic told Carolina that she has “all sorts of obstacles in the way.” She was being stand-offish during the date that led to Grant checking on her.  Zoe and the other women were annoyed, “it’s the Carolina show again.”

Grant probed her, and that’s when Carolina replied that she’s feeling like she’s not for him because it’s obvious that he’s having stronger connections with the other women.  It seemed that she wanted to go home, and was waiting for Grant to send her away.  But, Grant did the opposite and told her how he’s “emotionally invested in her,” and “ready to move forward.”

THE AFTER PARTY:

The women were already upset because she took a big chuck with Grant away from the rest of the women.  Zoe was feeling the most insecure, being the only woman to not receive a one-on-one before the hometowns.

The women called Carolina out for stealing so much time away from them with Grant.  The arguing commenced as soon as Grant left the room!   Dina had the biggest problem with Carolina since she helped her earlier, and had a “soft spot” for her. After the heated argument, what did Carolina do?  She went to grab Grant for more alone time!  On the upside, Carolina didn’t bring any of the womens’ drama to Grant.

The time between the two went well, and Carolina expressed that detail to the group of women who were extremely livid about it.  Dina said she felt “played” by Carolina since she advocated so hard for her last week.  Dina told Grant that “there are people here for themself,” alluding to Carolina.  Grant put this comment together along with others from other women to take into consideration who he was taking on the hometown dates.

THE SECOND ONE-ON-ONE DATE:

Grant and Litia took-in some local sights of Edinburgh, Scotland.  Grant said he and Litia have a “natural connection” that feels that they’ve been together longer.  While talking to some locals, he wowed her when he said he could see Litia as his wife.  They had a unofficial tying of the knot in this moment too.

It was during dinner time that Litia let Grant know that her family is Mormon and before him, she had never dated anyone outside of the Mormon faith.  She also expressed her intentions of raising her future kids in a religious household.  Grant said he doesn’t have strong rules regarding that and the main thing for him is “love.”

Grant got emotional when telling Litia about his upbringing and eating dinner alone in his room. He said he was alone a lot and talked to God a lot.  Grant told Litia that he’s “falling” for her. Emeli Sande serenaded the couple during a slow dance.

THE ROSE CEREMONY:

Before Grant arrived at the Rose Ceremony, Carolina pulled Dina to talk privately upstairs. She told her that their friendship meant a lot and wasn’t sure where things went South. Carolina told her she wished her the best and wants only the best for her moving forward.

Grant arrived and told the women that if they receive a rose it’s because he can confidently say he wants to meet their family.  The first rose went to Litia, followed by:  Juliana, Dina, and Zoe.  It was surprising to see Dina moving forward.  Traditionally, the one who goes to the lead to forewarn them about a villain in the house (in this case Carolina) they don’t receive a rose.

Both Carolina and Sarafiena used the word “blind-sided” in their exit interviews.  Carolina was so sure of getting a rose that she even patched things up with Dina.

NEXT WEEK:  Grant meets the families of Zoe, Dina, Litia, and Juliana.  It looks like he’ll have the toughest time with Juliana’s Italian family.  Then, at the Final Rose ceremony, Grant tells Jesse Palmer that he hasn’t decided who to propose to yet.

“The Bachelor” airs on Mondays at 8 pm PT, and available to stream on Hulu the next day.
