Flaws Still Remain on THE FLOOR Season 2 Winner Finale Recap

The finale of the second season of “The Floor” was a little bit more eventful than the first, with new rules and twists added.  Most likely due to some complaints made by viewers from last season’s finale when the winner walked away after competing in hardly any duels.  The new game show had a possible close call of the winner being an entirely newbie to a duel.  This time, “The Floor” added more guidelines to help prevent this and other unfair game play from happening.

Another new feature added was the Randomizer choosing new contestants who hadn’t dueled each time.  This guaranteed that we would not see a brand new player step up to the duel podium, then taking home the $250,000!

Will These Problems Be Fixed Next Season?

However, the show is still not clear of flaws. We still have the problem of showing contestants sometimes unidentifiable photos, and not prompting them when it’s still their turn.  The show started with more players this season, a total of 100.  By this last episode, only nine remained.

Among those include a teacher, Jennifer, and the contestant still holding the most dreaded category, the “Periodic Table.”  Angie, a whale at one time, was still on the floor and the only one left with a Time Boost.  This was helping to keep her safe (up until this point).  Angie is the only one left with a Time Boost

New Game Play!

For the first time, the final duel will be a “best of three duels.”  That means that whichever player wins the most of three duels will be crowned the season 2 champ and awarded the $250,000.  Host Rob Lowe also stated that for the first time, every single category on the floor will get picked.  Kevin still had his massive chunk of floor intact.  Lowe asked if he wanted to go for another duel or remain on the floor.

Another rule is that players could not use the Time Boost in their final duel.  Kevin decided to stay on the floor.  Next, the Randomizer chose Mena who held the category of “Accessories.”  She had to choose between CEOs, Game Show Hosts, or Based on a True Story.  Mena chose Angie who has a Time Boost and the category “Based on a True Story.”   In the duel, they had to identify from movie stills the title of the movies based on true stories.

‘Game Show Hosts’ was Finally Up!

Angie in fact did choose to use her Time Boost in the duel against Mena.  They had to name the title of a film pictured on the screen in front of them.  Unfortunately, for Mena, she bombed in this category big time!  Angie won with little to no work after Mena got stuck multiple times, passing on every image.  Rob Lowe gave Mena a touching sendoff that ended with Mena tearing up and thanked everyone for letting her “be seen.”

Angie decided to choose another category to Duel which was Kevin’s inherited category of “Game Show Hosts.”  Angie won and took over 86 total pieces of the floor, also returning to her whale status.  Angie figured out that everyone on the floor is neighbors with her, so she went back to the floor and left it up to the Randomizer.

Goodbye to Angie!

The Randomizer chose Jayna who challenged Angie.  The two battled it out in the category of “Accessories.”  The duel was won by Jayna by literally one second!  Or, did she?  Because Angie did in fact get the “Hijab” answer, but it was NOT accepted.  Her answer was thrown out due to what seemed to be a mispronunciation of the word “Hijab” that disqualified her.  This is questionable since the pronunciation is common.

After Angie left, Jayna chose to duel the “National Parks” category held by Nate.  The other onlooker contestants were hoping for a win from Nate since Jayna held the feared category of Shakespeare.  She in fact failed against Nate who went on in the finale game and won 90 pieces of the floor.

Lab Equipment Gets Played!

After that, only five players remained, and Nate inherited the category of Shakespeare.  Nate challenged the “Lab Equipment” category held by Katherine which she inherited.  Nate proved to know much less than Katherine in this category, and 92 pieces of the floor went to her.  But, she inherited the Shakespeare category.  When Lowe asked how she felt about that, Katherine responded, “I know my strategy.”  She went back to the floor.

The Randomizer chose Michael who challenged Katherine in “Shakespeare.”  Katherine’s strategy worked, and after the win, she looked to feel bad about the intentional set-up.  She took down Michael and inherited his category of “Sneakers.”  The Randomizer was activated again and it was between the teacher Jennifer, and Periodic Tables who would be up for the next duel.

Jennifer got chosen by the Randomizer, thus placing her in the final duel against, of course,  Catherine over “Sneakers.”  Jennifer, originally the “Bean Queen,” knew more sneaker brands than Catherine and was now in the final duel against “Periodic Table.”

Best of Three Wins the Loot!

Jennifer, now having 98 pieces of the floor, had to defend it.  The best of three duel contests were played by Jennifer, a teacher, and Keelan, also a teacher.  To start it off, Jennifer got to pick which category to play first, CEO or Periodic Table.  She chose “Periodic Table.”  This teacher didn’t know as much about periodic tables as Keelan.

The next duel was naming CEOs.  This duel would determine if a winner emerged, or if they would come out equal and have to go at it again in the third duel.  Lucky for Keelan, he knew enough CEO’s photos to win this second duel against Jennifer and the $250,000.

Jennifer fumbled her way through this CEO duel, and Keelan was “The Floor” season two winner.  Keelan had only played one duel before the finale episode.   He said his strategy was that he knew that his “Periodic Table” category would protect him.
Keelan works in special education after having some learning challenges himself.  The pairing couldn’t have been more perfect, going up against another teacher.  Keelan said winning the $250,000, he wanted to give back to the people who have helped him along the way.  Jennifer had said that if she won, she planned to use the windfall towards putting her two kids through college.

“The Floor” aired on FOX.  Seasons one and two are available to stream on Hulu.
