How Sophia Bush Broke WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE New Format, Celebrity Sneak-Peek!

The Celebrity version of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” hosted by Jimmy Kimmel recently wrapped filming and we were there to see lots of celebrity duos play a game in an attempt to collect $1 million for charities.

Premiering on ABC network Wednesday, July 10th, some of the celebrity players who are playing in pairs, include: Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell from “Good Burger” and Nickelodon fame; Sophia Bush (“One Tree Hill”) and her comedian friend Alex Edelman; best friends Donald Faison and Zach Braff from”Scrubs”; Brad Garrett and Ray Romano from “Everybody Loves Raymond”; Gata and Dave from “Lil Dicky”, and “Dave”; Gillian Jacobs and Danny Pudi from “Community.”

The Gameplay:

Allowing two celebrity players provided for some entertaining chatter, and it must be nice to have a phone-a-friend type situation with you in-person throughout  the whole game.  Though, the celeb players still did have the option to “phone a friend,” ask the host, ask the audience, and eliminate 50-50 of the options.

The downside to having two players in the hot seat, so to speak, is that the live studio audience endured some very extensive back-and-forth situations between two contestants while trying to decide on an answer.  Viewers at home will be very lucky to not experience this due to editing.

Sophia Bush’s Game:

There was no time limit on how long the celebrity players could take to answer a question.  During the taping of actress Sophia Bush and her friend, comedian Alex Edelman, the indecisiveness was so extreme, that even Jimmy Kimmel was tired of waiting for the two players, though he in fact kept his composure.

Towards the end of their game, Alex Edelman had had enough of Bush tossing the possible answers around multiple times before arriving at a “final answer,” and told her at one point to choose what she wanted.

Kimmel remained very polite the entire time, however, the audience could be heard moaning, and one yelled-out a rude comment.  After the super-extended Sophia Bush game, the next players, Dave and Gata, were very aware of what had just gone down.

The Aftermath:

Dave and Gata (from the “Dave” show), and Gata can most recently be seen in “Anyone But You,” mentioned that they learned from the last game to be in agreement quicker with each other in arriving at their final answers.

The leader board remains the same from the 2020-2021 season of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” where players start at $100, and play for up to $1000 which is bankable, then on up to $32,000 which is the next increment that they can keep, on to $64,000, $125,000, $250,000, $500,000.  If any of those questions are missed, they drop back down to $32,000.  If they get all questions correct, then they are able to win the $1 million after answering the final question right.

One question that stumped a contestant pair was to choose the meaning of a particular word (that had “geo” in it)  that defines how a human is 100 times more sensitive to than a shark smelling blood in the water.

Another question asked which movie did Brad Pitt play the character “Tristan.”

“Who Wants to Be A Millionaire” premieres Wednesday, July 10th at  8 – 9 pm EDT.  The first group of celebrity contestants for the show’s 25th anniversary will be Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, and John Mulaney and Nick Kroll.
