Where Trolls are Welcome on THE ANONYMOUS Competition Show Review
September 1, 2024Jeopardy Spin-Off POP CULTURE JEOPARDY Exclusive Look at Game Play!
September 9, 2024Last week on “The Bachelorette,” Devin finally heard Jenn speak the “I love you” words that he had been waiting and hoping for. And Jenn was still waiting for Marcus to share those words with her. The shocker of last week’s Rose Ceremony was when Jenn choose Marcus over Jonathon to be in her final two. Would she regret that decision? Days after Jenn’s After the Final Rose episode has aired, fans are still clamoring for Jonathon.
Jenn continued her love journey in Hawaii where she was expected to get engaged to one of the two men left who were Devin and Marcus. They each met Jenn’s family who were made up of Jenn’s mother, older brother, Aunt and Jenn’s friend.
The episode was played back to a live studio audience and moderated by host Jesse Palmer. Jesse teased, “will something that’s never happened before on the show happen tonight?” The answer was “yes,” yes it will!
The Guys Had a Heads-Up on Ending!
Seated in the audience were runners-ups Jonathon, Jeremy, Hakeem, and Dylan. Jonathon said he heard rumors of how things are going to go down and came for “support for Jenn”. Jeremy said the same thing that he heard how it ends and he’s there for “support.”
Devin Meets Jenn’s Family:
Jenn’s big brother and father figure, James, had some concerns for Devin. Quickly after Devin arrived to meet them, James and Devin sat down for a chat. James told him that he’s the “protective brother” and wants what’s best for Jenn. Devin said he’s confident in him and Jenn and how they make each other feel. “Jenn keeps me grounded.” Devin wanted James’ blessing. His response was that he can’t give the blessing yet because there’s still one more guy that he has to meet, and loved that he asked though!
James said Devin set a bar and he wants to see if Marcus comes in over the bar. He was already aware that Marcus hadn’t told Jenn that he’s in love with her yet. During his confessional, Marcus said he is still not in love with Jenn yet and is trying to get there.
Marcus Meets Jenn’s Family:
James grabbed Marcus for a chat right away after Marcus opened up to everyone about his tumultuous family upbringing. Marcus explained how he’s had a “heart of stone” especially in the Army where decisions were based on facts. James asked if that is why he hasn’t been able to get there with Jenn yet?
Marcus answered that basically he feels that he’s on his way to find true love and Jenn makes him believe it’s possible. James realized that Marcus was dancing around his questions. When Marcus sat down with Jenn’s mom, her Aunt asked if he’s in love with Jenn. He answered that he knows he can get there, but not yet. “I’ve been missing this feeling of uncertainty.” He struggles because he puts a lot of pressure on himself to be a good husband and father. “The feelings I have for Jenn are there.”
James asked Jenn if Marcus is giving her the love that she needs. She answered no, he could be giving more. James didn’t pull any punches and straight up told Jenn that Marcus fits that mold of being emotionally unavailable which she has a history of pairing herself with. He thought Jenn was falling back into her old pattern.
When Marcus and Jenn said goodbye to each other, she asked him if it’s her? He answered “no” and that it’s just him having cold feet about not being ready to be the husband that can support her that she deserves. After Marcus left, Jenn said she shouldn’t be confused about anyone at this point! Agreed!
Something is Afoot!
Back at the “live” studio portion, again, another hint was thrown to viewers, that the ending will more than likely not be a happy one and even a shocker. When Jesse asked James about how he’s feeling, he answered “honestly, I’m not happy.” Jesse teased the audience with this tidbit and said “as you can see, something’s going to happen here!”
Last Date with Devin
“No Doubts About It” – Devin
Jenn took Devin to a local Hawaiian spiritual ceremony which happens before any big life event to let go of the past. They each had to find a lava rock that represents their fear. Jenn picked up a very large lava rock. This stood for her fear of abandonment. Devin, who had a much smaller rock, said he wants to “take the good for the good.”
The ceremony had them release their fear by throwing their rocks into the water. Later that evening, Devin told Jenn that he likes “the thought of forever” with her and he trusts her and sees her completely. Devin got Jenn a gift that he had been saving since their first date in Auckland. The Shaman on that date told him not to give this gift out until he finds someone special for the rest of his life. Jenn was so flattered and it meant a lot. Jenn told Devin that she loves him again.
BEFORE Marcus’ Date:
Before Marcus’ date with Jenn, Jesse came to talk to him. He told him about his doubts on whether or not he and Jenn are meant for each other. Jesse asked after meeting the family, how have things changed? He answered that they’re making progress and hopefully the date goes well. He cares for her deeply. The general tone of the conversation sounded more like funeral vibes rather than happy, in love vibes. Marcus told Jesse that he’s never been “so torn.”
Jesse’s final words for Marcus were, “If in fact, you do love this woman, you have to tell her. Otherwise you’re going to lose her.” The problem is, Marcus still seemed to be on the cusp of falling in love with Jenn.
Jenn Pays Marcus a Visit!
Jenn went to talk to Marcus before their date to see where his head was at. She said she needs answers from Marcus and she’s not going to wait any longer. Jenn told him it feels that he’s not “excited for the future.” He said “it’s scary for him” and he’s “struggling for sure.” At first, It seemed like Jenn was planning on choosing Marcus and wanted to see if he was likely to stand her up at the Final Rose.
But, in fact, at After the Final Rose, Jenn stated that she went to Marcus because she had made up her mind that it was Devin. Jenn said she wanted to get closure with Marcus before her engagement with Devin.
After Jenn talked about giving so much of herself, and having it not be handled with care. Marcus finally said he knows that he loves her and didn’t want to give up on them. Jenn perked-up after finally hearing the “L” word come out of Marcus’ mouth. She had to step away from the conversation to process everything. In the end, she still broke up with Marcus.
Jenn told Marcus that she’s done “waiting around for someone to get there…I’m just done.” Marcus said he’s afraid of not finding someone like her again. Jenn said Marcus is amazing and that’s why she waited for him for so long. She said goodbye to Marcus.
Last Date with Marcus (Didn’t Happen)!
Back at the Live Studio, Marcus Reflects:
Marcus said he just wanted to be honest with Jenn, good or bad. Jesse asked him, did he have any regrets after he got back home? Marcus said it took some time to know if he made the right choice. Marcus said the painful truth was that he wasn’t living up to what Jenn said she needed. “As much as I cared about her, I think it’s tough to let someone go like that.” He wanted to hold on to her and that was the selfish part of him.
Jenn & Marcus Reunited:
Jenn told Marcus that he is a special person and she cares “so deeply” for him. Marcus basically said the same to her. That he cares deeply for her.
Jesse asked Jenn when she knew it was over with Marcus. Jenn said the moment was when Devin knocked on her door, she was scared that she was losing him. It was the opposite with Marcus, and she realized that her heart was in a different place all along.
Jesse asked a very good question. He asked Jenn if Marcus had told her he loves her earlier, if things would have ended differently? Jenn answered that it still would have ended the same. After that, Jesse reminds everyone that something happens tonight that’s never happened before.
Devin was busy selecting an engagement from Neal Lane for Jenn.
Breaking Tradition!
Proposal Footage Put on Pause!
The morning of the Final Rose Ceremony, Jenn said she’s done with men dictating her emotions. She woke up that morning with “an entirely different view on it.” She said in order to fulfill herself, she’s going to propose to Devin, and NOT let him propose to her. “I want him to know that I’m going to fight for him every day and choose him every day.”
From the studio, Jesse interrupted and said viewers will not see that proposal “until we heard from Jenn” who was standing by to reveal what happened. Viewers had to get through yet another commercial break.
Jesse explained that they didn’t show “the beautiful proposal” between Jenn and Devin. Jenn was seated next to Jesse in tears. She said she found the person that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.
There Were Doubts and Regrets!
Jenn sat down with Jesse to fill everyone in on what happened after the proposal. As soon as they left Hawaii, things changed with Devin. He pulled away, and not calling and not texting as much. Jenn was confused because they had left Hawaii so happy. “I felt like I was secondary to everything in his life.” Soon after, Devin broke off the engagement.
It was shocking because Devin always spoke about how much he wanted to be with Jenn. All the love he wanted to give to Jenn wasn’t there any more. Basically, leading her on. Devin joined Jenn on stage to explain what happened. But, as a viewer, I think we still don’t know fully.
Devin ended the engagement on a phone call. Jenn said she woke up the next morning and saw that Devin had started following Maria on Instagram. Devin said he had “doubts” and was “regretfully late” in letting her know.
Jenn talked about how she was “heartbroken” every Monday night while the show aired to watch the words that Devin had said to her. Every time he said he wanted to fight for their relationship, it wasn’t true. She asked “where was the fight?”
The Proposal Was Shown to the Audience:
Jenn arrived at the Final Rose Ceremony wearing a beautiful cream lace gown. Jenn told Devin that he’s everything that she dreamed of but didn’t know she could have and finished with “baby I want to grow old with you!” Jenn proposed to Devin because she wanted to choose herself. Devin proposed to Jenn anyway and got down on one knee, placing the ring on her finger.
A Fiery Ending:
Jenn told Devin that she’s still that same woman – ready to love, to start a family, and knows what it means to fully love someone. “I am still that same person.” She said she did fight for that love so much that she started to disrespect herself. And she will find that man that will fulfill all the promises that he made to her. Devin said he made a lot of promises and he does believe those things.
Viewers never really got the full story of why Devin had a sudden change of heart with Jenn after the show. Devin mentioned to Jenn that he wanted to focus on their “breakup” in their conversation and not so much about his clubbing with Jeremy after their breakup.
It did seem that some information was missing because Devin’s reaction was that Jenn was trying to “condense this.” Jenn added, “when I love something I nurture it. I value it and I don’t throw it away the next day.” Jesse told her that the great love that she deserves is out there, and he knows she will find it.
The finale ended on an upbeat note by showing a preview of “The Golden Bachelorette” season 2.
