Sam Dug His Own Grave on THE BACHELORETTE 21 Week 6 Recap

It’s the week before Hometown dates in “The Bachelorette” which didn’t bring back such fond memories for Jenn. It was the week before hometowns when Jenn was sent home during her time on “The Bachelor” by Joey.

This night was full of some major takeaways! Jenn learned the truth about Sam. We were all surprised when Jeremy got a rose! At the end of the episode, Grant was one of two men who will not be going on a hometown date next week. But, instead the show announced on social media that he will be the next Bachelor!

Jenn Gets Help from Charity!

Jenn wanted to talk to someone else who’s also been through the same experience before. Enter, previous Bachelorette Charity Lawson! Jenn needed help narrowing the pack of men down from seven to four. Charity asked her if there’s anyone who’s holding back? Jenn said “Sam is holding back a little bit.”

Jenn said “there’s more to be explored emotionally.” Jenn said Marcus is holding back as well, and she pinpointed Jeremy as someone she’s not sure she has chemistry with and sees a future with.

In the meantime back at the hotel, Sam was very confident that he would be chosen for a hometown date and was even planning for it vocally in front of the other men who were very put off by this!

The Date Card Arrived – Grant read the date card which had Marcus’ name on it for the first one-on-one date. This was Marcus’ second one-on-one date. The card came with a Letterman’s jacket. As viewers saw, this was a tease to what was a very special date.

THE FIRST ONE-ON-ONE DATE:

Jenn and Marcus went to a Wicked themed event! Bachelorette host Jesse Palmer met up with the two to introduce them to the event and stated that like in “Wicked,” which is about understanding someone’s character, that is also a very important part of this date.

As soon as Jenn and Marcus walked into the other side behind the green curtain, there was Daisy and Kelsey (also from Joey’s season) waiting for them. Daisy said she and Kelsey found an unexpected friendship, much like ‘Wicked’s Glinda and Elphaba.

Jenn and Marcus played a travel game where they had to choose between two different options/experiences. They were in agreement with each one, until it got to the choices of “Fast or Slow.” Marcus and Jenn were at odds because Jenn likes fast and Marcus said he likes to take his time in relationships. Jenn said his “slow burn” makes her scared.

During the last experience, they had to pop balloons that had messages inside of them. Marcus teared up when he popped a balloon that exposed a photo of him and his sister. That was followed by a video message from her. Marcus said he doesn’t come from a perfect family and hopes that’s something he can “get off his chest.”

The Bachelorette Fairy Godmother is Trista!

At the end of the yellow brick road was Trista from the very first Bachelorette. She led them to a giant air balloon which Jenn and Marcus rode on. The date helped Jenn to feel closer to Marcus. At this point, Jenn felt that she and Marcus were not in the same place, and was ready to find out during dinner.

Back at the hotel: The men realized that half of them are going home. Grant said he was falling hard for Jenn, and Jeremy was still hopeful of a one-on-one date. The next date card arrived. It read: “Spencer, Jonathon, Sam, Devin, Grant. I want a love that listens.” That meant that Jeremy had the second one-on-one date. Grant was really bummed about not getting that one-on-one date.

Back to Jenn and Marcus: They arrived for dinner on a baseball field. Jenn said it was the “best day ever” and was worried if her feelings for Marcus might be stronger than his for her (NOTE: We’ll see this seems to be the case in next week’s preview teaser). Marcus opened up a bit about his family, stating that he doesn’t come from a “perfect family.”

Marcus said him and his sister were “born into a rough situation,” having parents who couldn’t take care of them. “They weren’t fit to be parents.” He told Jenn how they dropped them both at daycare, and never came back.

Marcus said he and his sister ended up in multiple foster homes together and he had to take over as a parent type figure for his sister. “The experience made me feel like there was something wrong with me.” He said “there’s a huge canyon between liking someone and loving someone.” He wants a love that will stay when someone else will leave. Jenn told him how strong he is and “how incredible’ he is to have overcome all that. She told him that he is “worthy” and gave him the date rose.

Ironically, Jenn described this date as the experience that she never thought she was worthy of.

THE GROUP DATE:

With Molly & Jason!

This group date indeed required a lot of talking! Because Jenn met the guys at a local Seattle radio station for a talk show. Blast from the Bachelor past, Jason and Molly Mesnick were also there on hand to help Jenn navigate through the situation of learning more about these guys!

Before the men arrived, Jenn told them how so far, Sam was her top pick. Well, that may have sabotaged some things because after they all arrived, things went straight downhill for Sam. But, Devin predicted it big time!

The radio hosts started with a rapid fire questions session. Everyone was super uncomfortable when Sam answered “aggressive” for the Fantasy Suite! Unfortunately, Jenn questioned Sam’s authenticity when he answered the question of how he feels about her. Sam was asked to stay behind to talk to Jenn some more while the other men were asked to leave (but were really watching on from a different room)!

Sam Crashed and Burned!

Jenn asked Sam some tough questions. In the process, Sam revealed that Jenn isn’t his type. Then, Sam said he thought the Bachelorette was going to be either Daisy or Maria. WHAT?? Did he really just say that??!!  The other men watched on and were amused by how Sam wasn’t really answering any of the questions. He kept answering the questions from his perspective without any feelings for Jenn.

THE AFTER PARTY:

Jenn told the group of men that because hometowns are next week, she isn’t about to make a mistake, and will need to talk more with one of them. They all knew that she was talking about Sam!

Devin scored points when he told Jenn that he feels good about bringing Jenn home because he promised his mom that he would only bring someone home that makes him proud. Jenn was happy to hear that and said he really gets her. She told Devin that she’s “falling” for him as well.

Jenn saved Sam for the very last guy to talk to. She didn’t think he could back up his feelings for her. She said it was frustrating and needed to know “what’s going wrong.” Jenn asked how he felt and needed clarity.

Then Sam told her that he loves her. Jenn was confused as to where that was coming from because he wasn’t able to back up such a large proclamation! She said it didn’t feel real. She realized that there was no logic there. Jenn finished the conversation by telling him they need more time.

There was no group date rose given out because Jenn said she wanted to give 100% and told them she would see them at the Rose Ceremony. The next day, Sam was fearful of going home.

THE SECOND ONE-ON-ONE DATE:

Jenn said she was hopeful of this one-on-one date with Jeremy where they met at the famous Pikes Place in Seattle. Jenn was worried because hometowns were next week and her and Jeremy’s feelings were the “most behind.”

Jenn needed to feel confident that there’s an emotional connection with Jeremy. During dinner, Jeremy told Jenn that his mom is very kind like Jenn and wants them to meet each other. He opened up to Jenn about being Jewish and how her conversion would play a part in wanting to raise kids in the Jewish faith.

Jenn responded that it was a possibility that she would be open to because she has a lot of Jewish friends. But, she is Buddhist, and doesn’t want to give that up. Ultimately they thought it would make sense to keep both cultures from both faiths for their future children.

Jenn gave Jeremy the date rose. That meant she had only two more to hand out! With men like Grant, Devin, and Adam left Who would be the one left out?

Before the Rose Ceremony!

Jenn started the night out in a heated frenzy as she searched the mens’ chambers to look for Sam to talk to in private. This didn’t look good to the men who thought Jenn was upset.

Sam apologized how things went down and said he’s protecting his feelings. He confirmed that he indeed meant to say he loves her. Jenn was shocked because she thought he was going to say he didn’t mean to say it.,

Sam continued to go around in circles with no direct answer to Jenn specifically. He was speaking in rhymes and made it more confusing to Jenn. In her confessional, Jenn said “I could be anyone right now and it wouldn’t matter.”

Jenn explained to Sam that she was at this disconnect with him. She told him that she couldn’t “do this” and the fact that he can’t express how he feels. She finished with, “I’ve been through this so many times, teaching people how to love me… I’ve closed this chapter. I’m done.”

THE ROSE CEREMONY:

There were four men without roses, and only two roses. The men were: Grant, Devin, Spencer, and Jonathon. Marcus and Jeremy both got roses from their one-on-one dates earlier.

Jenn told the men that she has to follow her heart because she knows that her husband is in the room. The first rose Jenn handed out went to: Devin.

The next rose went to – Jonathon. That meant that Spencer and Grant were sent home.  This was a show first, when Spencer called him mom crying after his elimination.

NEXT WEEK: Jenn meets the families of Devin, Jeremy, Jonathon, and Marcus. The sneak-peek teased that perhaps Marcus is going to self-eliminate due to him not “being there” yet with Jenn.
