More amazing acts set their sights on the stage of “America’s Got Talent” (AGT) season 17 as they gave it their all in the auditions round, now in week 8 of season 17.  This week displayed some really incredibly gifted singers, and gutsy danger acts.  When it came to the stand-up comedians, Simon was in a mood and not the laughing kind.  With only a couple of weeks left until the end of the auditions round, there was no lack of variety this week.

Judges (Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, Howie Mandel) sat through incredible aerialists, stunts, dancers, singers, a magician, and even a specialty act that not only revealed himself as a familiar face, but more than what the judges (or anyone) wanted to see!

BAYLEY GRAHAM (Tap Dancer)

Bayley is 22-years-old.  He’s a Tap dancer from New Zealand.  His goal is to have a Las Vegas show.  Bayley tapped a routine that was flawless.  Then he repeated it faster.   Heidi said she could watch him all day and she had the best time.  Sofia predicted that he will soon be where he wants to be in his career.  Simon responded that he knows zero about tap dance.  But, Bayley “really undersold himself.”  He asked him if he really wanted to do this. Bayley said he just wants to do this and perform for people.  Bayley got four “yes” votes from the judges.

FRECKLED ZELDA (Singer)

Pictured: Freckled Zelda — Photo by: Trae Patton/NBC

She’s a “music fairy” from the “Freckled Forest.”  Simon said she’s “interesting.”  She arrived dressed in full fairy wardrobe, similar to “Lord of the Rings” and even wore elf ears.  She showed the judges her “potato flute” which she played during her song.  The judges were very doubtful of Freckled Zelda’s talent.  However, they were really impressed with her beautiful voice that displayed a lot of range.   She sang “Colors of the Wind.”

She received a standing ovation from the audience and from Heidi.  Simon reacted that when she walked out, he thought “this is going to be really terrible.  But, actually you have a really good voice.”  Simon told her that she doesn’t need that instrument.  He added, “carry on looking like that if you want because you’re interesting.”  Sophia said when she started singing that beautiful song, it was really unexpected.  Sofia asked her about the outfit.  She said she’s a fairy and she’s never going to change.  Heidi said she liked the potato flute.  AGT is a variety show and they don’t all have to be the same.  Howie agreed and gave her the first “yes” vote followed by the rest of the judges voting “yes.”

MAXENCE VIRE (Magician)

Maxence (Max) said he’s French, from Paris.  He’s 32-years-old and has been doing magic since the age of ten.  Max said magic is his life.  Max’s magic trick was like a story that unfolded.  He had a lot of storytelling elements and great interaction with the judges.  He also used comedy in the act which made it more entertaining.  Max had Sofia draw a heart on an envelope.  Then had Howie Mandel give him his credit card to place in the envelope.  Simon then shredded that envelope with Howie’s credit card inside.  Heidi chose a card which read “milk.”  Max’s reveal was a soda can.  NOT milk.  At first, it seemed like a mistake.  But, by the end of the act, he revealed that there was milk inside the can, as well as Howie’s credit card!

Sofia thought it was “brilliant” and he was “so funny.”  Heidi said “it was so much fun” and he checks ALL the boxes, charming, funny, you can do all the magic!” Howie agreed that he is very funny.  Simon thought  Max was “annoying,” and unusual.  “However, the audience loved you.”  He gave Max a “yes” vote along with the other three judges.

RCC ARUBA (Stunt Act)

They are from Cuba and Columbia but made Aruba their home 20 years ago.  Their tools got lost in travel and production had to help them replace all the pieces that are part of their act.

Sofia called it “unbelievable” and exciting, sexy.  She said not having their equipment  one hour before their performance, she was so proud of them.  Howie said even if they had their own equipment it was thrilling, exciting and they blew his mind.  Simon said before they started he saw a bouncy castle and thought it wasn’t going to be great.  But, he thought “it was really cool: and could tell how much it means to them.  They got all “yes” votes from the judges.

ALL THE COMEDIANS:

GINA (Comedian) – Gina Stahl said she is 41 wonderful years, from Nevada.   As part of her act, she talked about how her body changed dramatically.  Simon thought she was a “little robotic.”  Howie disagreed and thought she was “memorable,” and funny.  She made it to the next round.

KIM (Comedian) –  Kim Evey is from Los Angeles.  Simon also didn’t care for this comedian’s act.  Sofia and Heidi both liked it, as well as Howie.  She got three “yes” votes, and moved-on.

DON (Comedian) – The next stand-up comedian was Don McMillan who is 63-years-old.  He does stand up comedy for a living and brought his screen with him (a TV monitor).   He used this monitor to display powerpoint showcasing different statistics that included divorce rates, microwave popcorn, geeks vs. nerds, and so on…  While doing so, Simon looked bored watching his act.

Howie said he’s going to be remembered as the guy who presents his act as a powerpoint. Heidi said “it was very different” and he had her in stitches.  Sophia said she had “the best time.”  Simon, who didn’t really enjoy his comedy, said “I didn’t really get it. ” He said it’s subjective and “you don’t have to like every act.”  The other judges gave Don a “yes” vote.  Simon said “no.”

AVA SWISS (Singer)

Ava is 18-years-old from Oxford, Michigan. She chose to sing “Remember” by Lauren Daigle.  She said she chose the song because on Nov 30th, her brother and her were part of the Oxford shootings.  She said the music has been a therapy for her, and has gone back to the school since the shooting.  Simon told her that they were rooting for her before she began to sing.   Ava belted-out a beautiful rendition of the song and got a standing ovation from everyone, including all of the judges.

Simon asked, “wow, how does that feel?”  Ava answered “amazing.” Howie said in life, “it’s tough to show-up.”  The fact that she was able to break through and shine, “that was really wonderful.”  Heidi called Ava “so special.”  Sofia said it took her breath away and the song that she picked was perfect.  She wasn’t just singing, she was showing her feelings and gave her goosebumps.  Simon called Eva “gutsy” and this is one of those auditions that he’ll never forget.  On top of that, “you have a great voice.”  He said they have met the most extraordinary people over the years, and now “we just met you.”  Ava got all “yes” votes from the judges.

TREY & CIARA (Dancers)

Pictured: (l-r) Trey Rich, Ciara Hines — Photo by: Trae Patton/NBC

Trey and Ciara are besties who’ve been dancing together for a long time.  Trey said they are there for fun, but they are also there to win!  They are from Maryland.  Trey is 16 and Ciara is 17.  Simon asked them if they were a fruit, what would they be?  He was kidding.

After their upbeat and in-sync dance routine, Heidi and Sofia gave the duo a standing ovation along with the audience.  Sofia said it was amazing, “It was all about your bodies doing this amazing dance.  I loved it.”  Heidi said they brought some “new moves” and she loved it.

Howie loved the coordination and the synchronicity.  But it was lacking crispness for him.  “Too loosey goosey” for him.  Simon wanted to know if the dance was a story or something?  Ciara said in 2018 her Dad passed away unexpectedly from a massive heart attack.  She said the love and support she felt going into the studio afterwards is the same love and support she feels today.  Simon said you can see that they are close friends, and he doesn’t have many friends.  Simon joked, “will you be my friends?”  Howie gave them a “no” vote.  It was up to Simon for the deciding vote.  He voted “yes” and he’ll have two friends for life.

AUZZY BLOOD (Danger Act)

Pictured: Auzzy Blood — Photo by: Trae Patton/NBC

Auzzy said it’s cool to be on AGT where he can express himself to the fullest.  He came in full goth makeup and calls himself “Auzzy Blood.”   He’s from Las Vegas and describes himself as a “sideshow freak.”  He likes to put himself in danger to entertain others.  He got into it after watching other acts on Freemont Blvd. in Las Vegas.  He said he can win because he pushes his limits further than other people do.

During his act, Auzzy fully swallowed a wavy sword then did pushups.  After that, he swallowed a curved sword.   He asked for a volunteer to come up.  The audience chanted “Howie.”  Howie helped guide the next sword down his throat.
Simon asked what they would see next if he went into the next round.  He answered that he’ll try to break a world record.  Howie called him like the Beatlejuice of Sideshow. He made it through to the next round

DUO MIO – CAROLINE AND MAX (Aerialists)

Caroline is from Boston, Massachusetts.  Max is from Orangeville, Canada.  They are a duo aerial act.  She was on season 12 assisting her husband on his balance act.  Her husband is now helping her.  Her husband is controlling the switch as she glides around with Max.

Sofia called it “sexy and mysterious” and wants to see more.  Howie said it was dangerous and so exciting, as they performed without a net.  Heidi said it was like a movie.  Simon said he liked the act and finds the story very interesting.  He asked Caroline if she dumped her husband for a new partner?  She said “no.”  Then Heidi asked “what can he do that her husband can’t do?”  Simon was getting to that same point.  She answered that his specialty is not aerial.  They got four “yes” votes from all the judges.

DEBII DAWSON (Singer)

Debii lives in Los Angeles.  She said music is more than a hobby.  It’s her legacy.  Her grandfather in India taught himself how to play the organ and he taught her father and he taught her. When she said her parents are there with her, Simon responded that that’s not a good sign.  The audience “booed” Simon.

Debii played the guitar as she sang “Dancing Queen” in a very soft tone.  The audience gave her a standing ovation.  Simon said her parents “really missed out.”  Howie told her that she has a star quality.  Sofia said she wouldn’t mind listening to her voice all day long.  Heidi said she wished Debii would look up more.  She’s gorgeous and her voice is just as gorgeous.  Simon said she took one of the most well known Pop songs of all time and really made it her version.  “I’m going to remember this audition. I’m really, really happy you’ve auditioned on this show.”

Simon then asked if she’s going to phone her mom and dad?  She answered “yes.”  He asked if they could talk to them?  She got them on the phone and Facetimed.  Howie and the other judges asked why they were not there?  Dad answered she told them not to come!

THE BIG APPLE (Comedian)

Pictured: The Big Apple — Photo by: Trae Patton/NBC

He’s from New York, and dressed in a full apple costume.  Simon asked why he’s there.  He answered that he’s there to prove that “Apple’s got talent.”  If he could be a fruit, what would he be?  He said pineapple because it’s a sexier version of apple.  At the start of his act, he was making lame jokes and offended Howie by calling him fat.  Both Howie and Heidi hit their “X’s,” followed by Sofia and finally Simon.  Then the Big Apple came out of his costume to reveal himself inside a worm costume AND that it was actually Sethward who’s been on the show multiple times!   He performed last season as a peacock and actually went through to the next round!  This time, no such luck.  As Terry Crews was pulling Sethward off of the stage, his costume broke in two and revealed Sethward’s naked bottom half!  Everyone was hysterical!
