A Favorite Emerges as Battles End and Knockouts Begin on THE VOICE 28 Episode 10 Recap

Going into the last of “The Voice” Battles for season 28, returning coach and champ Michael Buble still has his Steal left.  At the end of this episode, Mega Mentors Joe Walsh from “The Eagles” and Zac Brown helped artists with the Knockout Round.

END OF THE BATTLES:

Ralph Edwards and Jerrell Melton were up first from Team Snoop.  Ralph sang a journey song during his blind audition and Jerrell sang what Snoop said “something out of a Disney movie” for his blind audition.

Their love for R&B made Jerrell and Ralph choose each other.  They’re singing “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims for their Knockout, advised by Lizzo.  What the singers learned was quite possibly how to create a “Wow” moment from the coaches!

Niall Horan happened to be friends with the producers and writers of that Teddy Swims record.  Reba loved their distinctive harmony and gave the win to Jerrell.  Michael Buble predicted that Ralph will “go far on this show.”

It was the moment of truth from their coach Snoop Dogg.  He requested some “game show music” from the band in order to talk to the Gangster Holy Ghost!  When he was done, Snoop went with “wreck-it-Ralph,” Ralph as the WINNER

Victory of a One Chair Turn!

Reba pitted two of her artists whom she was the only coach to turn, Peyton Kyle and Shane Scott.  Reba and advisor Nick Jonas gave them the song “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House.  Reba gave them the song for its range.  Nick advised Peyton and Shane to connect with the words of the song.

After their “awe” inspiring Battle, Michael Buble gave the credit to Reba for her one chair turns and seeing something that the other coaches didn’t.  The WINNER of the Battle round was Peyton Kyle.  Reba said his vocal range is “incredible” and loves the “breaks in his voice.’

Teo Ramdel Battled Elias Gomez with “Die with a Smile” song.  Coach Buble declared Teo as the WINNER because he reminds him a lot of a young Luis Miguel.  Buble predicts the more Teo is challenged, the better he will get.

There’s Only One Niall Horan!

Country Pop Trio DEK of Hearts challenged Jack Austin to the Battle round, after their original choice turned him down.  Coach Niall Horan chose the song “I Will Wait” by Mumford and Sons for their Battle.  Reba wanted to pick all four of the artists after their Battle because she couldn’t choose the winner.  Buble voted for DEK of Hearts, and Snoop was very entertained by their Battle performance.

Niall chose DEK of Hearts as the WINNER.  Plus, Niall said he’s never had a trio and recognized his edge coming from his background being in a band.  Michael Buble used his STEAL on Jack.  His strategy is that Jack reminds him of a young Niall Horan.  Thus, predicting Jack will go far!

This round won’t have a Steal or a Save.  But a new weapon has entered the competition. The new rule allows each coach to hit their “Mic Drop” button to nominate one of their Knockout winners to perform at the Rose Parade.  The actual voters of America will decide which artist will win the once in a lifetime opportunity.

Team Reba was up first for the Knockout round with Mega Mentor Joe Walsh.  Reba’s Save, Aubrey Nicole was up against Leyton Robinson.  Aubrey, who sang a Martina McBride song, was intimidated by Leyton’s voice singing “I Could Use a Love Song.”

After their Knockout performance, Reba was in tears.  Buble gave Leyton the “complement” of singing like she’s 40-years-old.  Reba told both Leyton and Aubrey that they did a great job listening to their Mega Mentor.

Emotional Singer!

Sensing a sensitive moment coming-up, Snoop gave Reba his tissues just before she talked about losing her oldest son to cancer while addressing Aubrey’s song choice which is about cancer.  The WINNER was Aubrey who’s an emotional singer.

Snoop’s Mega Mentor is Zac Brown whom he recently did a music collaboration with.  The first Knockout match was Ralph Edwards vs. Kenny Iko.  Kenny chose “There Goes My Baby” by Usher because he stated “there’s a current vibe to it.”  Ralph chose to sing “Dive.”  Listening to Ralph, Kenny said he felt like an “underdog.”

Ralph’s sultry sound was undeniable to Kenny’s smooth 1990s sound.  Niall went with Ralph.  Reba praised Ralph’s voice as well.  Snoop called Kenny a super-star and liked that Ralph displayed his advice.  Before choosing the winner, as always, Snoop consulted the Gangster Holy Ghost who led him to choose Ralph as the WINNER!  Snoop said “Ralph has the ‘it’ factor.  As in he could actually WIN this!”

A Steal and A Save:

Niall chose Ava Nat and Sadie Dahl because one was a Steal and one is a Save.  Ava chose an Olivia Newton John song because it reminds her of “Grease.”  The song is “Hopelessly Devoted to You.”  Niall called it not only a challenging song, but also the perfect song for Ava.

Sadie had an emotional connection to her Sam Smith song which is “Too Good at Goodbyes,”  also a challenging song.  Buble gave “the edge” to Ava, who sang more open and out loud.  However, Snoop leaned towards Sadie.

Coach Niall was still fanning-out over his Mega Mentor Joe Walsh before announcing the Knockout WINNER as Ava.  Niall said she’s the most consistent on the show.  And “her ability to tell a story is insane.”
