CBS new talk show to replace “As the World Turns” will have viewers tuning into a different world starting Monday, October 18th. THE TALK features six celebrity moms (Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Julie Chen, Leah Remini, Sara Gilbert, and Marissa Jaret Winokur) talking their way through celebrity gossip, hot news topics, and daily challenges of being working mothers.

Sharon Osbourne seems to be still finding her footing among the all-women hosts, unlike her all-male counterpart judges from “America’s Got Talent” as she tends to be over-shadowed by Julie Chen and Leah Remini who is similar to her “King of Queens” character. Gilbert fades into the background amongst the stronger hosts’ personalities. Chen serves as the group moderator.

Five shows were pre-taped last week on the CBS Radford lot in Studio City, Ca. HOLLYWOOD JUNKET was on the set during two of those days. We witnessed the women wearing the same outfits both days. The show is said to go “live” starting tomorrow, October 18th. However, we can’t help but wonder what will become of the shows that have been pre-taped? Were they for practice? Will they be combined into one show with a live opening added?

THE TALK opens each show with five of the hosts seated around a table. The sixth host, Winokur serves as the show’s field correspondent. The celebrity gossip of the day was David Arquette and Courteney Cox’s trial separation. Peete reacted to Arquette’s intimate life details on the “The Howard Stern Show” with , if she was Cox, it wouldn’t be a “trial” separation. It would be a real separation. The women viewed a video clip of a real life “sister/wife” situation with a man in Utah with four wives. The women each made their pick from each other of who they would prefer to have as a “sister/wife”.

Celebrity guest, Alison Sweeney host of “The Biggest Loser” came on to give the women a food challenge. They had to take their best “heathly” food guess pick out of two food choices. Wrong answers earned them an exercise task. Who knew that one slice of pizza is less fattening than a plate of spaghetti with Mariana sauce? Peete had to run one lap.

Fans of the “Celebrity Apprentice” will remember the firece fund-raising battle between Osbourne and Peete and wonder if the same tension will be present between the two on THE TALK. Viewers will get a tiny bit of that when the two ladies disclose a studio parking lot incident on the show.

It has yet to be seen if THE TALK will touch on such controversial political issues that are an open forum on “The View” that has created much of the show’s success. The closest we’ve seen to that so far is Gilbert discussing her vegan and same-sex choices. Yawn!
