USA Network’s “Race to Survive: New Zealand” is now in week three of the adventures of racers from all different backgrounds.

Last week, Coree and Jeff “tapped-out” due to Coree suffering another hit to the head after falling.   Ashley was suffering from an injured ankle while she continued to push through the pain as her and team mate Rhandi entered the canyons portion of race 3.

As the women approached the canister that would allow them to progress to the canyon’s portion of the race, they were met by some fierce rivalry from Kennedy and Nik.

Touching that canister first would give the winning team a five minute lead.  Ashley and Rhandi were neck and neck with Kennedy and Nik.  It was Kennedy and Nik who beat them to the canister.  Thus, getting the five minute lead.

The Teams to Beat:

Ryan and Bronsen were the only team to skip the one food cache in this course.  They were one of three teams headed to the finish crate after kayaking to shore.  Those top three teams were Oliver and Corry, finishing first again for a third time; Tyrie and Ethan in second place; and Ryan and Bronsen in third.

Oliver and Corry went for the Charcuterie Board as their food reward inside the fishing crate.  Ethan and Tyrie were keeping focused on closing the gap between them and Oliver and Corry. They took the cooking spices as their prize.  Bronsen and Ryan, who came in third place, snagged a fishing rod, or sphere.

The Last Three Teams:

Ashley and Rhandi struggled their way through the canyon portion of the race while dealing with Ashley’s ankle.  Kennedy and Nik found themselves in a close race with Paulina and Creighton after kayaking to the end crate.

Which one would be faster – kayaking, or running on land?  Kennedy and Nik bet on running, and lost out to Paulina and Creighton who stayed in the kayak to get to the end crate before Kennedy and Nik.

Paulina and Creighton grabbed the last reward of “camp shovel.”  They came in fifth place.  As the teams waited to see which team would finish next, the show’s director delivered the bad news about Corry and Jeff, who were airlifted out to treat Corry’s head.

Part of that message was that the two men were okay.  So, that was great news.

Two More Eliminated!

It was Ashley and Rhandi who were the last team to arrive at the end crate.  They knew that there may not be medallions inside for them.  Unfortunately, they opened a crate that was empty inside.

They were proud of finishing and the other teams said their farewells to the women.  Paulina said “they brought so much energy and positivity around….they are two badass women.”

Three out of five women are now gone from the race, making Kennedy and Paulina the last two women remaining in the race.

After three and a half weeks, it was estimated that the races have lost between seven to twenty-one pounds. Thus, the focus of Survival Camp for all the teams was catching fish in the vast water that they were camping near.

This week, the show revealed something that many viewers most likely questioned.  That was that each racer was permitted to bring fishing line and lures.  Earlier in the race, Oliver and Corry were the only ones to get a casting rod and reel as a reward from an end crate.

While on their fishing mission, the teams were surprisingly treated to a dolphin show as they jumped in and out of the water.

A Deal Was Struck!

Creighton, who is racing with his ex-wife Paulina, was so hungry, he was entertaining the thought of eating the dolphins!  That probably led Creighton to strike a deal with Bronsen and Ryan, who were also starving.

The deal was that if Creighton caught something with Bronsen and Ryan’s spear, they would split the catch 50-50.  The in-laws agreed.  So, Creighton went off to hunt, and said he’d pay $1,000 for a burger.

Kennedy had luck with catching a big three-foot barracuda fish, after Oliver and Corry lost the fish that they had caught.

It had been three days of no food for Ryan and Bronsen who were praying for it.  Soon, (as in twenty minutes later) food arrived via Creighton who caught the group an eel.

What’s Next?

As the teams packed up their survival camps, Oliver stated that he and Corry are there for the race, not for the survival.  Tyrie and Ethan were on to the fact that Corry and Oliver were weak in survival skills and said their strategy is “building” to beat them as they all go into race 4.

NEXT WEEK: The racers will face race 4 which will be a non-stop, 24 hour race!
