It was announced today that FOX”s dance competition show “So You Think You Can Dance” and singing competition show, “American Idol” have received numerous Emmy nominations.
Eight Emmy nominations for “So You Think You Can Dance” include: Outstanding Reality – Competition Program, four Outstanding Choreography nominations for Stacey Tookey, Travis Wall, Tabitha and Napoleon , and Mandy Jo Moore, as well as Outstanding Lighting Design, and as suggested by last nights guest judge Jesse Tyler Ferguson – Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program, Cat Deeley.
The ten Emmy nominations for “American Idol” include: Outstanding Reality-Competition Program, Outstanding Art Direction For Variety, Music or Nonfiction Programming, Outstanding Directing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Series, Outstanding Short-Picture Editing, as well as Outstanding Sound Mixing For Nonfiction Programming.
Creator, Executive Producer and SYTYCD judge Nigel Lythgoe gave the following reaction to the announcement today – “I’m delighted that American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance have received 18 nominations between them. I wish everyone who’s nominated luck. I’m particularly thrilled for Cat who richly deserves this recognition.”
Also, E! new reality show “The Dance Scene” garnered an Emmy nomination for choreographer Laurieann Gibson for Lady Gaga’s “Monster’s Ball”. Gibson has another reality competition show set to air on BET on August 2nd called “Born to Dance: Laurieann Gibson”
