November 23, 2021It was Dedication Week on “The Voice” season 21 Top 13 performed on Monday’s episode. Many of the artists chose past teachers and mentors to dedicate their performances to. Other chose their parents. Each artist chose their own song and with the help of their coaches – John Legend, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and Ariana Grande, they made some memorable performances.
Tuesday’s results show eliminated two artists, turning the Top 13 into the Top 11. One vote went to viewers who were able to Save one artist in the bottom three during the Instant Save Vote. The coaches did not get to Save any of their artists this week.
PARIS WINNINGHAM (Team Blake)
Paris chose “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye. His grandmother used to tell him about the racial injustices when he was young and told him don’t think it can’t be you. Paris said when he walks on stage he’s going to think about his grandparents.
John said he does feel a “pinch of stupidity” for letting Paris go. But, he’s so happy that Paris is still on the show and he has such a powerful voice. Blake said to listen and watch him deliver that song with that message. “You’re not a secret around here anymore. People are catching on.”
JEREMY ROSADO (Team Kelly)
America voted Jeremy through last week. He dedicated his song to his dad who is living off of one artery in his heart. His song was “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion. Kelly said people usually don’t sing Celine Dion, because they shouldn’t. Jeremy said it’s the first time he’s singing that song.
RYLEIGH PLANK (Team Ariana)
Ryleigh was Saved last week by Ariana Grande. “She’s a rock star…soulful ballad singer. She’s everything,” said Ariana. Rylaigh sang “Rhiannon” by Fleetwood Mac dedicated to her sister, named Rhiannon. During rehearsal, Ariana advised Ryleigh that she just needs to find her moments, “Ryleigh it up” said Ariana.
Blake reacted that he thought it was “really cool.” The band stuck with the original but Ryleigh’s voice and how she performed it “took it to a different place.” He said “amazing” and “great job.” Ariana said it’s one of her favorite performances of Ryleigh’s to date. She became “the most control she’s ever been.”
GIRL NAMED TOM (Team Kelly)
“Girl Named Tom” chose “Dust in the Wind” song. They told the story of their grandma who was in a duo with her sister and competed on an OG singing competition show with Frank Sinatra. “The tradition of harmony is in us” Grandma told them “you got that from me.” Kelly said she could see them winning the show. “They’re incredible.”
John said he’s been a fan since the beginning. He’s never heard him sound better as a soloist. When they come together, the harmonies are so tight. “Just gorgeous work.” John said it sounded “haunting.”
Kelly said she wanted it to sound “creepier. How they harmonize, they have a solid chance of winning the show. No group has ever done that. Each artist as an individual is so gifted.
SHADALE (Team Legend)
John Saved Shadale last week. Shadale chose the song, “Life is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts. It’s dedicated to her dad who is a truck driver. She told John she wants to “rock out” on the song. Shadale said she’s dedicating the song to both of her parents. “They’re both hard workers. And I know I get that from them.” John advised he wants it to sound “bright and energetic.” He raised the key and made the song sound brighter. John said some of Shadale’s voice choices reminds him of Beyonce. “She’s going to prove that I made the right choice.”
Ariana said she was so surprised by the song choice. “I love what you did with it,” and Ariana and added that she always has incredible energy. She lights up the room. John said “we let the artists pick the song they’re going to sing in this round…” He said he was surprised when she picked the song too. But, “when I see you do it, you have so much energy, so much commitment to doing the song.” He said he loves watching her blossom.
HAILEY MIA (Team Kelly)
Hailey chose the song “I’ll Stand By You” dedicated to Kelly Clarkson. Her mom was there during rehearsals. Hailey said having her mom there in rehearsal and Kelly with her before going on stage is going to make her feel more confident. Kelly said Hailey’s voice is “insane.”
John said she’ s soulful and also loved the “tender moments…it was such a magical moment.” Kelly said she remembers being a 14 year old singer and did not sound like her. “Your head voice is so gorgeous.” She said for her to hold-out. She’s so young to be doing that and will be shocked if she’s not in the Finale.
WENDY MOTEN (Team Blake)
Wendy is a Grammy nominated artist. Blake said she’s a living testament to not give up on your dream. Wendy said living and working in Nashville is the right place to be. “I’ve always been a chameleon and sing in different genres.” She dedicated her song to her music teacher who told her if she can master classical, she can sing in any genre. Wendy said she’s always on her shoulders. Wendy sang Linda Ronstadt who, Blake said is like Wendy, she’s done all genres.
Ariana reacted (after snapping at Carson Daly for calling her “Ari”), “what do you say about that? I’m floored that it’s happening right in front of me.” She added that she can’t believe that Wendy is as big as a secret that she is. Blake said while she was performing, you could hear John and Ariana reacting. Blake also pointed out that Wendy didn’t blow the roof off like usual. But, what she did “had so much finesse “If your dream is to win the voice, I think this is possible sis.”
JERSHIKA MAPLE (Team John)
Jershika said a few months ago she was a security guard. She sange “God Only Knows.” Jershika dedicated the song to her fourth and fifth grade teachers. She said when she was held back and was made fun of. But, those teachers made her see something she didn’t. John advised her to go up another key. John said it’s so “Wow” to him that Jershika was working as a security guard when she has a voice like this.
Kelly reacted that she’s such a beautiful and majestic singer. “It was packaged so beautifully.” Kelly was crying and said she’s such an idiot for letting Jershika go. John said he can see how important it was for her to use this platform to share her message to America. “You can just sing your butt off. It’s just ridiculous.”
JIM & SASHA ALLEN (Team Ariana)
Jim and Sasha said t’s great that Ariana is that close to them. They dedicated their song to Sasha’s cousin who passed away at the age of 26. Jim said they also feel her presence. Sasha came up with the idea for the end. Ariana said she hopes they are the ones to go all the way.
Blake said since this season began he’s seen the greatest improvement. “It can’t be your coach.” Last week was unbelievable, and you did it again. Then he told Ariana “good job Ariana!” She agreed with Blake that they get better each week. “You do it so beautifully and so stunningly each time…there are no words.”
LANA SCOTT (Team Blake)
Lana sang Tim McGraw song “Humble and Kind.” She said “there’s no song that makes me think of my dad more than this song.” He worked at Ford Motor company for 30 years and built the stable his horses are in. She called “The Voice” hitting gold. Blake said he’s never been more confident in a Country artist on the show.
Blake said what she was able to do with that song, it could restrict you as a vocalist. But she did it as as a solo. He advised her not to lose that innocence. “There’s something so pure in your vocals.” He told her dad that he did an great job with her.
GYMANI (Team Kelly)
Kelly Saved Gymani last week. She’s been the most steady singer that’s been killing it. Gymani said it was her mom’s dream to be a singer, but decided to be a mother instead. She dedicated her song to her mom. Kelly advised Gymani to sing with more urgency. Kelly told Gymani she has a special kind of gift.
JOSHUA VACANTI (Team Legend)
John said he has an incredible voice but Joshua “also has some moves!” That’s why America voted for him. Joshua dedicated his song to his music and drama teachers in high school. He went through a dark time until he walked into the theater department and music department. “I want to say the things that make you different make you incredible.”
John said Joshua can sing anything . He has a crazy range and wants to make sure they take advantage of that range. John said Joshua delivers when the pressure is on.
Ariana said “That was stunning” Each and every week that Block stings a little bit more. She said he’s so brilliant and stunning. John reacted that he loves that no one else is like him. He has a lane to himself and is dominated. “Your bravado just rings out.” John added, “I just love watching you be your full self and embracing it.”
HOLLY FORBES (Team Ariana)
Ariana said hello to Holly’s daughter Violet on the phone. Holly chose “The Dance” by Garth Brooks. She dedicated the song to her Stepmom who was always there for Holly. Ariana said Kelly Clarkson loves that song and it’s going to be a tough one for Kelly to watch. Holly was on Kelly’s Team before.
Blake said with Garth being a close personal friend of his, “that song changed Garth Brooks life and went on to change Country music.” She poured her heart into it. Ariana said that it was an incredible rendition of that song. What she does is in her own league and in her own lane. ‘It’s beautiful.”
TUESDAY RESULTS SHOW:
Both John and Kelly performed with their Teams for the first time this season. Viewers got to Instant Save one artist. Two of them went home at the end of the show.
The Top 13 artists came out onto the stage. Host Carson Daly asked Jershika how her teachers changed her life. She answered that they saved her. She added that kids with learning disabilities can overcome them.
The first artists announced as moving on to the Top 11 was Girl Named Tom (Team Kelly), followed by Jershika Maple (Team Legend). America also Saved Holly Forbes (Team Ariana).
John Legend performed “Don’t You Worry About a Thing” by Stevie Wonder with his Team members: Jershika Maple, Joshua Vacanti, and Shadale
Jeremy dedicated his song to his father. He said to his dad “I love you pappy,.” Jeremy added that he’s an incredible father and as long as he gets to be with him…”I love you so much.” America Saved Jeremy Rosado (Team Kelly). The next Saved vote went to Lana Scott (Team Blake).
John said he sees Shadale living what her parents have taught her every day. She comes through every day with drive, and pushing herself. She’s a beautiful vocalist, and an awesome human being.
