It was only months ago when “The Voice” season 19 returned to the Universal stages after season 18 finished in 2020 one year ago with everyone at home during the pandemic.  Each coach had a different, creative way to greet their new members while practicing social distancing orders.  “The Voice” returning coaches are Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, John Legend, and Nick Jonas.

In the show’s current season 20, John Legend was more than ready to say goodbye to his rubber glove on a stick, and hello to a portable keyboard which he’ll play while serenading his new Team members.    His lyrics include: “Welcome to Team Legend…you made your choice.  Let’s go and win The Voice….”  Kelly Clarkson has her rack of Team jackets that artists get to pick from.  Nick Jonas, who wasn’t there last season,  fittingly has notebooks, representative for his memorable note-taking,  for his Team members.  Finally,  Blake Shelton welcomes artists with personalized bobbleheads!

Other ‘Voice Covid protocols, the crew members number dropped from 340 to 140.  The studio audience of about 110 people is still streamed-into the stage, same as last season, and shown via multiple computer monitors behind the coaches. Artists’ families are with them also via internet stream.

During a tape day of the Blind Auditions, it was Nick Jonas’ first day back on “The Voice” coaching panel since his first time as a coach in 2020 during season 18.   The format remains similar to last season’s.  The coaches will each have ten artists per Team again this season.   The coaches will be equipped with one Block, two Steals and one Save each.  There will be three Live show weeks in May, and a Four-Way-Knockout.

Kelly stated that it’s really rare for her when she gets guys on her Team.

Further into “The Voice” season 20, here’s a couple of things viewers can look forward to:  During the Battles, a popular Country duo will be Team Blake’s advisers. Also during the Battles, the show will experience a first in ‘Voice history. John Legend called it “unprecedented” when a previous mentor has to step-in.  During the Knockouts round, the Mega Mentor this season represents a music genre that has long been under represented on “The Voice.”  We’re happy to finally see the show go in this direction!

There will be a variety of artists this season ranging in age.  Though the scale is largely tipped towards the younger side.  Viewers will see a lot of artists in the age range of 17-23.  Also included are the show’s traditional power houses,  Country singers (one with a mullet) and a lot of artists from Texas.  Backstories include a cancer survivor, and another artist who almost lost her life.

Blake is up to his regular antics.  At one point, he tricks Nick into thinking he’s on his side, then does a 180 when he Blocks Nick from an artist.  Nick was bind-sided.  Then kept his guard up the rest of the tapings.

“The Voice” season 20 premieres Monday and Tuesday, March 1st and 2nd on NBC.
